The Blessing enhances the qualities expressed through the natural material that the Mala is made of. For example, rosewood will be enhanced to help bring one to a more loving, accepting place in their life, as well as mend or heal relationships, and deepen their loving connection to Mother Earth. Sandalwood is Blessed to be "mind-calming" and meditative, and will create some kundalini movement up through the sushumna. Bone or horn malas are blessed to assist in deeper contemplation on the impermanence of life, which eventually reveals the insight of the Permanence of Self.

Malas (incense and the like) can be chosen according to which one you feel "drawn to." This type of inner-response occurs because your energy system needs that particular type of healing to create balance in your life, or because you are already skilled in this area and this will help further that aspect of development.

Each Mala is Blessed and designed to help you generate various "higher, virtuous qualities" in your overall life-expression (personality, action, thoughts, spiritual striving), as well as will guide you to the Divine ItSelf. There are many rivers (paths), but they all end up in the same Ocean (Divine/Truth/God/Self). Therefore, one type of Blessing is not more important than another. It all depends on what you need in your life, or what qualities you would like to develop at this time. You could choose to develop qualities you don't feel you have much of, or instead just enhance the higher qualities you feel much more resonant with. This choice is up to you.
